Description
My husband and I love everything fantasy. We met playing Dungeons and Dragons. So I always knew that we would have a magical wedding. Our theme was black and gold fantasy.
The favors were potions of all kinds. Everyone loved that we had an elegant dragon wedding cake.
I hand made all of the decorations, accents, center pieces, table flower bouquets….. There was a lot going on but it was tasteful. It was such a beautiful day!

Description
Stephen and Jodie are both from Ottawa but met and  planned their wedding while living in Ireland completing medical school. They couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day in August, with sunshine all day and a full moon that night. It was a rustic, vintage, yet simple and intimate wedding surrounded by 75 of the couple’s closest friends and family. There were many DIY aspects to the wedding, including the isle mason jars, table centerpieces and lawn games hand-made by the father of the bride. It was an unforgettable day filled with much laughter and love.

From the beginning, we knew we wanted a wedding that radiated “us”. So, we chose a venue with history, character and charm in the groom’s small hometown of Almonte. With the help of family, friends and some fantastic vendors, we pulled off our perfect day. It was the personal touches and contributions from the special people in our lives that made our day so memorable to us. The sparkler exit at the end of the night was one of our favorite moments.

Fitting with our love for outdoors, the wedding had to be outside and we really wanted to celebrate in a barn as we really love everything rustic and made out of wood. We also have a big passion for treasure hunting in antique stores, so the wedding had to have a little touch of vintage as well. As for the bohemian theme, we thought it was the perfect fit to reflect our love for nature, to keep it relaxed and friendly and to be different from traditional weddings.

Joshua proposed to me after ten years together on a hike by Maligne Lake in the beautiful Rockies! When we started to plan our wedding one of our priorities was we wanted our families to be able to celebrate with us so we knew we would be going back to Ontario. We chose Strathmere for its effortless beauty and we were not disappointed! From our simple but personal ceremony in the tree covered garden to the reception at the Lodge our wedding was filled with love.

Jessie and John flew out from Alberta to have their wedding take place at the Inn at Strathmere. Everything took place at Strathmere. It was supposed to rain that day, but thankfully the rains held off long enough for them to have their beautiful outdoor wedding ceremony and to do their formal wedding portraits. Their wedding day was filled with a lot of laughs and good times.

Description (Up to 500 Characters)
It was a beautiful day in July for a vintage, 1920’s themed wedding which included flapper dresses and fedoras, fringes, lots of feathers and a vintage car. There were a lot of do-it-yourself projects in realizing this perfect wedding day, including the making of the centerpieces, the bouquets and the boutonnieres. Some guests arrived in 1920’s themed clothing and the signing book was made of pages that looked like old telegrams. All went without a hitch and it was a most beautiful wedding day!

Weddings with Special Needs Take Planning

By Rev. Alan Viau

Love knows no boundaries. People fall in love with each other despite challenges. For some, that challenge is more than just a personality quirk, it is a physical issue. It takes a little extra planning to ensure that your wedding can accommodate your physical needs. As a result you will have the wedding of your dreams.

I met Eloise and Peter and it was evident how much they love each other. Both in their early forties, they were as cuddly and tender with each other as any younger couples I’ve met. We became very comfortable with each other quickly and they said, “You’re the extrovert we’ve been looking for to do our wedding!”

We started delving into the details of their wedding ceremony. Eloise explained that she couldn’t stand very long because of her rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia. We planned a very short ceremony where they would sit for most of it. Eloise and Peter would only stand for their vows.

Both medical conditions that Eloise has can vary from day to day. The day of the wedding was a good day. She was feeling good.

Nonetheless, we went through with the plan. It was a lovely ceremony with lots of love.

This is not the first time where I’ve needed to accommodate the special needs of either the bride or groom. I’ve officiated for a hearing impaired bride, a groom in a wheelchair and even a groom with a full leg cast. With a little planning any wedding can occur while taking into consideration special needs.

Tanya and Andrew Marry at the NAC

Ottawa’s National Arts Centre is another gem location in which to get married. Tanya and Andrew held a wedding in the round during a blustery winter day. No matter the weather, it was a perfect day for them.

Winterlude is Ottawa’s festival celebrating winter. There are many activities and things to do; skate on the Rideau Canal, eat a Beaver Tail, admire the ice sculptures. Certainly, one advantage for me was that I parked at the Ottawa Convention Centre and walked on the canal to the National Arts Centre for the wedding.  I thought it was pretty neat to do that.

But no matter, February 1st is winter and getting from the limo to the entrance was a challenge that just  can’t be accomplished gracefully. After all you must keep the wedding dress looking perfect!

Le Salon is a perfect venue in which to perform a wedding in-the-round. I’ve officiated many weddings there in this format. In-the-round is a wonderful configuration because it brings everyone closer to you for a more intimate feeling.

Tanya and Andrew selected a wedding  that underscored their religious beliefs. Like many who choose to have a wedding in a non-faith venue, there are still strong ties to the past. So I performed the candle-lighting ritual and a recital of the Lord’s Prayer for them.

They certainly looked happy! Congratulations to you both. I left soon after the ceremony to head down to the Courtyard Restaurant for another wedding (next week’ story). But from what I can tell – it looks like they had an awesome party!

A Disney Princess’s Dream Wedding

By Rev. Alan Viau

She wanted to look like a Princess from Disney for her wedding. You’ll agree that she did… and married her Prince Charming.

http://cop-11.eproofs.ca/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/an1.jpg

One of the pleasures I have in performing wedding ceremonies is marrying people I know. I’ve known Anastasia and Nic for many years. Anastasia recently completed a Masters in Women and Gender Studies at Carleton University. I was delighted when she asked me to perform her wedding ceremony and even more so when she asked my Sweetheart to help her get dressed. Anastasia and Nic also took my advice and hired expert wedding planner Shannon Kennedy to coordinate the day.

The event was hosted at the Brookstreet Hotel which is one of my favorite venues. Anastasia was asked by her hair and make-up artist how she wanted to look. Her answer was “Like a Disney Princess”. Ariana Assadi excelled at transforming an already beautiful lady into gorgeous.

http://cop-11.eproofs.ca/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/anastasia.jpg

We all waited in anticipation for the Disney Princess to arrive.

http://cop-11.eproofs.ca/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/waiting.jpg

Anastasia entered the tent and walked down the aisle on her own – a testament to the woman she is, and adored by her Prince Charming.

http://cop-11.eproofs.ca/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/enter.jpg

With the ceremony underway, you can see the love and joy between them. And, I seem short between them!

http://cop-11.eproofs.ca/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/ceremony.jpg

They incorporated the Unity Sand Ritual in the ceremony. I added the final white sand to signify the purity of their union.

http://weddingchaplain.files.wordpress.com/2013/10/anastasia-nic-156-1.jpeg

Having completed all the requirements, I declared them married. They kissed and then they walked down the aisle, happy to be together.
